About Model Designations
The Hoyer system is easy to understand if you know the rules:
Yellow brass is considered standard construction; all nickel-silver models
will have the “NS” suffix.
In German, a detachable bell is considered “abschraubbar”,
so a nickel silver, detachable bell model will be designated “NSA”.
Unlacquered models have no designation, while the “L” suffix indicates a
lacquered horn.
The 5801, 6801 and 7801 models feature the Hoyer “3B” mechanical lever
links. The 3B bronze bearings are engineered to provide decades of quick,
quiet, dependable valve action.
The 5802, 6802 and 7802 models feature the traditional string lever action
that is preferred by most American players. The advantages of string
levers are adjustability and silent, efficient service.
